Over her exceptional thirty-year career, Louise Bessette has shone with the excellence of her stage performances and through her involvement in disseminating the music of our own time. She invariably receives rave reviews. She has recorded a varied repertoire, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. She has performed on the international stage with famous orchestras and has been invited to prestigious festivals.
In 2016, Louise Bessette was honoured by the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, where she was awarded an honorary doctorate in music, in recognition of her international career as a performer, a leading figure in the performance of music from the 20th and 21st centuries, and her significant impact in the contemporary world of classical piano.
Louise Bessette won an eighth Opus Prize in 2016 and was named one of the 25 best Canadian pianists by CBC Music in 2015. With honours such as First Prize in the Eckhardt-Gramatté national competition (1981), First Prize in the International Contemporary Music Competition (Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 1986), First Prize at the International Gaudeamus Competition (Rotterdam, 1989), the Prix Québec-Flandre (1991), Member of the Order of Canada (2001), Officer of the Ordre National du Québec (2005), and Canadian Music Centre Ambassador (2009), Louise Bessette is also a music professor at the Montreal Conservatory of Music.
